Application: Pneumatically convey cement from ships into temporary storage bins.
Challenge: Locate a dependable slide gate that will withstand to the abrasiveness of the material handled and seal conveying line pressures up to 30 psig.
Results: In this application, cement is being transported in ocean vessels from the Pacific Rim to Houston, Texas. At Houston the cement is unloaded into holding bins. It is then loaded into local trucks that transport the product to sites within a 50 mile radius of the Houston area.
The company is continually looking for new and better ways to handle cement. When a local Vortex representative mentioned that Vortex was seeking beta sites for a new slide gate, they asked if they could be considered.
A model HDP10-MG HDP Slide Gate replaced a pinch valve at the facility. It is handling approximately 20,000 ton of cement a month and has performed flawlessly since January 2006.
